Skill Level Required
This year we have included a new guide alongside the workshop descriptions to help you choose if the workshop level is right for you. Choosing the right skill level will give you the best value from your day and will ensure that the tutor can give equal attention to all of the students. If you are not sure please contact us and have a chat with one of our tutors who will advise you on the best workshop for you.
Level One - No previous experience needed but a reasonable degree of manual dexterity is necessary.
Level Two - As Level One but working on slightly longer or more involved projects so these workshops are a bit more intense.
Level Three - Some previous experience and familiarity with hand tools is desirable. We recommend prior attendance on one of our half day beginners courses before booking on any level three course as this ensures you have the basic skills to get the most out of these courses.
Level Four - Specific experience required. Please see individual course descriptions for details.

Tiara Workshop Full Day Workshop £45 includes materials
An intensive day of tuition and practical wirework, which will enable you how to make any style of tiara, wired hair accessory, or crown. In the morning you will make two practice frames to learn the wirework skills you will need and the afternoon is dedicated to beading techniques for decorating a third frame of your choosing. We will have a whole host of different tiara styles, shapes and colours available for you to copy, or adapt to your own style on the day for your afternoon project, just some of which are shown below, or you can bring your own ideas along with you and we will help you to create your own unique piece.

All the wire that you need is included in the cost of the workshop and beads will be available for purchase if you need them for your final design.
If you would like to read more about our tiara workshops take a look at http://prettypeyote.blogspot.com for a review written by one of the students who attended a course with us in March 2009
Hair Decorations Full Day Workshop £45 includes materials
This day is dedicated to hair ornaments – no tiaras today but, using similar techniques, and some new ones, we will be looking at making decorated pins, combs, fascinator style decorations and hair slides. From small and delicate, to bold and beautiful this class will cover a whole host of ideas to create the perfect accessory for any occasion. Some of the design ideas that we have looked at in previous classes are shown below - using beads, wire, fancy threads, small beads or a combination of any or all of these there are many ideas that we will be looking at, encouraging you to find your own unique style and look at how different styles work for different settings, accessories and occasions.
All the materials that you need to learn the techniques are included in the cost of the workshop. A variety of other beads will be available to purchase on the day if you wish to expand on the design ideas.

Macramé Day Full Day Workshop £45 includes materials
Macramé is enjoying a huge resurgence of interest at the moment as new materials and ideas have brought this traditional craft bang up to date. In this class you will learn a variety of basic knots in the morning session, moving on to make a piece of jewellery using the techniques you have learnt in the afternoon. You will also see a variety of different materials that are used for macrame work and the different effects that can be achieved by varying the threads that you use. The pictured pieces below have all been made using C-Lon macrame thread which gives a beautiful finish to fine work, but we will also show you pieces that have been made using Rattail, cotton thonging and wire so that you can see the potentials of other materials too.
No prior experience of macramé is needed, as the class will cover all of the basics. The pictures below show some of the different stitches that you will learn, and some of the designs that Lynn has been making to show you the different ways in which you can combine the thread and beads to make your own unique piece.

Creating With Wire Full day workshop £45 includes materials
|

The Chrysalis bracelet (above) is made using macrame with wire and you will learn a beginners version of this bracelet in one of todays three sections
|
A combination of three hugely popular classes that we have run previously including the ‘Eris’ workshop that we held to celebrate the launch of Spellbinding Bead Jewellery.
This day will run in three sessions – in one session you will learn how to use basic macramé techniques with wire and use these techniques to make a beautiful bracelet; in another session you will learn about using pre-knitted wire to make jewellery and use this wonderful, versatile material to make a bracelet like the ‘Eris’ on page 51 of Spellbinding Bead Jewellery; and, in a third session, we will show you how to make simple wire filigrees, without the use of jigs, to make a delicate linked necklace.
|
The Eris bracelet (below) is the inspiration for the knitted wire bracelet you will make in one of todays three sessions

|
All the wire and basic beads that you need are included in the cost of the workshop – extra beads will be available to purchase on the day if you want to add something extra to your work.
Small Beadwork for Beginners Full Day Workshop £45 includes materials
An introduction to the beadwork stitches that make up the core of a beaders armoury when working with small beads. Once you have mastered these basic stitches a whole new world of beadwork will open up to you – and we will get you started – not just with the basic stitches but bringing them all together to make your own unique piece of jewellery.
The morning will be spent making simple samplers of three of the most common small beadwork stitches, moving on to make a stunning project to utilise your new skills.
All of the materials that you will need for this workshop are included in the price.
Sculptural Peyote Full Day Workshop £45 includes materials
In this class you will be making a stunning bracelet using brick stitch and sculptural peyote techniques. You do not need any prior experience of either brick stitch or peyote stitch for this class but you do need to be familiar with using a needle and thread for small beadwork as a good level of manual dexterity is required. If you have enjoyed the Beginners Small Beadwork class and wish to try another small beadwork technique to build your repertoire further this is an excellent class to move onto.

She has co-edited (along with Liz Thornton) the best selling series of books published by the Guild and more recently co-wrote The Beader's Floral (again with Liz Thornton). Jill has been successfully running The Bead Merchant in Essex for 15 years and designs and sells Beadwork Kits. She also holds beadwork classes both in Essex and around the country and is visiting us this year for a day of intricate small beadwork in Jill’s signature style.

The owner of Witch Beads, Sylvia has been beading and designing for nearly twenty years, and also somehow finds the time to travel throughout the UK teaching Beading classes and has also taught in Japan. Sylvia will be teaching one of her designs, the stunning Wisteria Lariat, in a class in Lichfield for us this year.

Erika Schrinner is one of the regular Spellbound staff members with a special interest in all things wire related. Erika is a trained stained glass artist who, alongside her work at Spellbound and stained glass commissions also finds time to make her own lampwork beads and explore all areas of creativity with a particular eye to making every moment and scrap of material count. With this in mind Erika has devised two new workshops this year with a Christmas theme - Wire Decorations and Stocking Fillers. Erika will also be teaching Beginners and Beginners Plus classes and is a tutor on our evening programme.
Liz Thornton is well known as a beadworker with a passion for sharing her knowledge and love of the craft with others through her teaching and writing. Liz has been teaching beadwork since 1995 and was instrumental in founding The Beadworkers Guild, which was launched in 1999 and now has around 4,000 members. She was editor of the Guild's quarterly journal for three years and co-editor of the Guild's popular series of books. A major creative project has been the design of a collection of 3-dimensional beaded flowers. These are now the subject of a book, The Beader’s Floral, that Liz has written, (with Jill Devon), and Liz will be bringing a floral theme to us this year again with the gorgeous Butterflies in a Buddleia Bush project.
